Operations

Operation of the Brunswick Pipeline has been contracted to Spectra Energy, the managing partner of Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline. This natural gas transmission pipeline has been operating throughout the Maritimes and New England since early 2000.

System maintenance procedures will be consistent with Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline's existing programs and those used by other NEB-regulated pipeline companies across Canada. Maintenance will be performed by Maritimes & Northeast personnel and equipment and/or qualified local contractors. Typical maintenance activities for Operations staff include internal pipeline inspections, annual above ground surveys, and cathodic protection readings.

It will be possible to isolate sections of pipeline for remote shut down when required for maintenance activities. Pipeline valves and above-ground facilities will be properly secured and protected by suitable fences to prevent tampering by unauthorized parties. The fenced areas will be monitored and maintained to ensure safety and an acceptable condition.

The pipeline right-of-way will be clearly marked at public roads, railroad and navigable water crossings, and other areas to reduce the risk of damage or interference as a result of construction activities and other projects. This also allows rapid identification of the pipeline during aerial surveillance. Brunswick Pipeline will maintain ongoing contact with the community, landowners, and businesses regarding pipeline safety and public education programs.
